30 Jan

When it comes to choosing your competition suit bottoms, the MOST important thing to do first is to check the rules and regulations of your show. Each of our back coverage options meet the regulations of at least 50% back coverage. Our bikinis are made by regulations for all organizations, such as NPC, IFBB, FAME, Bikini Universe etc. Once you have secured the rules and regulations to of the correct back width, you will want to choose the back width option that accentuates your body the way you want it to be presented on stage!

Here at Saleyla, we offer three different back coverage options:

  • Rio – our most narrow option, offering 5.5”-6.5” in back coverage

Which Top Style is Best For You?

28 Jan

There are so many different things to think about when it comes to creating your perfect suit for competition. After looking at countless competition suits in magazines or online posts, it is best to keep in mind that a suit design that may have worked so well for some, may in fact not be quite right for your own body type. Remember to keep an open mind and remember that each body is unique in its own way. One of the most important design elements of your suit is your top style.

At Saleyla and FitnessProDirect, we offer 5 different top styles to choose from:

 1. Triangle Top

  • Description: Strings tie at the neck and back. (Hooks can be added upon request)
  • This style is recommended for women of all breast sizes, but works best for smaller breasted women. We recommend getting a size up in the triangle top, that way there is extra room for additional padding if needed. Our tops are fully lined, with a built-in inside bra pocket. We provide free soft or molded bra pad, depending on size. You can remove the bra pad or add more if needed.
  • lime green

 2. Halter Top

  • Description: Thicker Strap. Hooks behind the neck
  • This style is recommended for bustier women as the thick straps push the breast upwards and provides the most support.
  • local

3. Underwire Style

  • Description: Made of molded bra cup with underwire support
  • This style is recommended for a smaller chest, as it is most like the design of a bra created to push breasts together. With that being said, it is hardest to perfectly fit a bra to the desired size and can sometimes look bulky or too tight around the bust.
  • under

 4. Butterfly Style Top

  • Description: String ties at the neck and back
  • This style is recommended for both large and small breast sizes. It is a unique style to the usual choices of top styles, and could definitely wow the judges with its diversity.
  • IMG_4753
  •    5. Front Criss Cross Top
    • Description: String ties behind the neck. Hook behind back
    • This style is another unique option, and usually for smaller breasts. If you are looking to try something different or stand out on stage, this is a great option to break out of the competition norm!
  • front

6 Vital Tips for the Total Competition Package

22 Jan

You’ve spent countless hours at the gym and rigorously stuck to a diet regimen all for this one moment on stage! Your physique is at the very best it can be, your diet has been impeccable and now it’s time to take first place just as you deserve!

Judges have the job of inspecting and analyzing a lineup of nearly flawless bodies, which often leads them to rely on the minor details to make the final decision. While these six helpful tips might seem so miniscule, they really enhance the total package that you are presenting. Trust us when we say, it is worth the extra effort to perfect what seems to be the small details.

 1. Nail your Posing Routine!

Learn how to pose for your body and remember—practice makes perfect! It’s most important to think about what poses hide your weaknesses but showcase your strengths. Remember,  your posing is how you are presenting yourself to the judges! Have no idea where to start? HINT: Meet with a posing coach! Your coach can be the first to tell you the perfect pose to fit your body type.

 2. Find a Suit that Flatters You

Months of hard work in the gym and in the kitchen can be ruined simply by wearing the wrong suit—but luckily, the designers & staff at Saleyla are here to help! We know this part of the process can be daunting since there are so many options, but we always like to say, this is the FUN part! Picking the right suit for you requires a few key components:

  • Color: Make sure the color of your suit flatters your skin tone and hair color (but also keep in mind, you will be bronzed and beautified by show date!)
  • Top Style: The most important thing to remember for picking the right top style is the size of your breasts. Are you bustier? Then we recommend the halter style. Are you a bit smaller in the top region? We recommend getting a size up in the triangle top, that way there is extra room for additional padding if needed.
  • Bottom Style: We offer 3 different styles of back coverage: full coverage (8” to 9”), moderate coverage (7” to 7.5”) and rio coverage (pro cut- 5” to 6.5”)
  • Rhinestone Connectors: From loops & circles to hanging or chain connectors—the possibilities are endless! Connectors are a fun way to add a little pizazz to your already beautiful suit.
  • Stonework: Want to enhance your suit with some added bling? You came to the right place! We can completely customize your suit with a few stones or a rhinestoned covered suit! Stonework is yet another way to express yourself to the judges and stand out among the other competitors on stage!

Still overwhelmed by the thought of picking the right suit for you? Don’t worry—Saleyla’s knowledgeable staff can help you find the right cut, color and connectors for your suit to fit your body!

 3. Plan for a Tan

IMPORTANT: Test multiple tanning companies and their products before using them on competition day! A dark competition spray tan is applied to highlight muscle definition. Choosing the right product or tanning company can make the difference between a discolored, streaky mess to a smooth, even color!

 4. Choose a Hairstyle that Works Best for You

Although longer hair typically presents better, it is all about your facial structure and what looks better on you. The color and condition of your hair is not something the judges will miss either —and remember, those stage lights magnify just about everything. Try out a few different hairstyles and make sure to take pictures! If there is still room in your overall competition budget, we recommend spending the extra money on a Brazilian Blowout. This often calms frizzy, dry or overly curly hair with smoothness and an unforgettable shine!

 5. Perfect your Stage Makeup

Stage makeup is much different than the everyday or even “girl’s night out” makeup routine that you already have nailed! If you applying the makeup yourself, don’t forget to match your foundation to your spray tan, which is likely 4-5 shades darker than your natural skin tone. Don’t match your eye shadow color to your suit, instead choose a color that enhances your facial features. Most importantly, remember to go heavier than you normally would because stage lighting can sometimes dim the appearance of makeup.

If you happen to have the budget for it, hire a competition makeup professional. Take notes about what makeup brands and colors they use for the next time you want to recreate your winning look!

 6. Choose the Right Bling

Sometimes half the fun in competing is the glitz & glamour of it all! Wearing rhinestone jewelry or rhinestone studded shoes should be the final touches to the already perfect package you have created. With that being said, stage jewelry should add to your overall look, but never take away by drowning your hard work. Add a few small touches to your overall look, and voila! Your ready to step out on stage with confidence and pride!

Track Workout

3 Aug

Adding track workouts are a good way to introduce some variety and get some definition in your legs; a great way to prepare for your next figure competition. As with any program, it’s best to start slow and work your way up to the more intense programs.  For beginners, a run/walk program would be best.  As you increase your endurance, incorporate sprints, plyometrics, etc.   Don’t forget to stretch and fuel your body.

Below is an example of a track workout to get your heart beating and body sweating.  It is not recommended to do all the exercises in a single day.  Pick 3-4 and mix it up.

  1. Sprints:  Sprint the length of the track and walk the corners – repeat this for 5 laps.
  2. Lateral Shuffles:  Turn to your side in a squat position, step out to the side and shuffle down 25 steps, turn around and return to the starting position for 25 shuffles on the opposite leg.  Do this for 5 sets.
  3. Plyometrics (2 sets of each jump – 15 times)
    1. Lunge Jump – Starting for a lunge position, jump up and alternate legs. Repeat.  Pay special attention to your knee position when landing.
    2. Squat Jump – Jump up and return to a squat position.   Keep knees and toes parallel during your jump.
    3. Tuck Jumps – Holding your arms out level with your chest, jump and bring your knees up to your hands while keeping your back straight.
    4. Bleachers – Run up a set of bleachers as fast as possible.  Run down slowly for recovery and repeat 4 times.
    5. Jump Rope Intervals – 3 minute jump rope intervals with a 45 second recovery.  Repeat for 15 minutes.
    6. Ladders – On a football field, start at the end zone, sprint 10 yards, sprint back to end zone, sprint 20 yards, return to end zone, sprint 30 yards, return to end zone, continue to 50 yard line.  1 minute recovery.  Repeat for 3 sets.
    7. Fartlek Run – Jog for 2 minutes, sprint 40 steps, repeat for 15 minutes.

Choosing the right Bikini Competition Suit

30 Jun

When your next NPC event is on the horizon, your mind will undoubtedly be racing with all the competition prep to be done. If you aren’t happy with the look of your deltoids or the tautness of your glutes, for example, what last minute tweaks can you make to your regular workout to enhance these areas?

But, while it is of course essential that you take to the stage with a perfectly muscular physique, there is another element of your presentation that should go overlooked: your posing suit.

Before selecting your suit, be sure to look over the specifications for your competition. These can typically be found on the official event website. For instance, if you are taking part in an NPC-sponsored bikini competition, you are (obviously) required to wear a two-piece posing suit. In addition, the federation stipulates that your outfit must be “in good taste” – so no thongs allowed – and should have V-cut bottoms. The NPC even reserves the right to turn away contestants in inappropriate attire, so, to prevent this, be sure to pack a spare suit just in case.

Once you understand the basic requirements, it’s up to you how far you want to go in terms of embellishments. Do you want a posing suit covered in crystal details, for example? These models are typically more expensive, but they certainly make your presence felt on stage. Of course, you can always opt for a pop of color to create that extra impact, particularly if you won’t be dripping in Swarovski.

Whatever style you go for, be sure to make this decision well ahead of time. The NPC allows contestants to wear off-the-rack suits in their bikini division, but you still may be tempted to get something custom made, especially if you have a specific idea in mind. That means you’ll need at least a month to make sure that your ensemble is as stunning as you intended.

One way sports drinks can enhance an intense workout

27 Jun

Ever wonder if popular sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade are all they’re cracked up to be? Given the rise of overly processed, sugar-laden foods it’s good to have a healthy suspicion about any food-based product you can pick up at a local 7/11. And, if you’re currently training for a fitness, figure or bikini-competition, then you’re probably paying particularly close attention to what you put in your body.

Nutritionists have gone back and forth about the merits of sports drinks for years, with some touting the benefits of electrolytes while others argue that a simple bottle of water provides all the hydration you need. Recently, though, a professor of physiology and kinesiology has produced a whole new argument in support of the enhanced option.

According to professor W. Larry Kenney, sports drinks are a better option for more intense workouts that last for 45 minutes or more because, unlike water, these beverages keep athletes going back for more until they’re completely rehydrated.

“If you drink plain water until you no longer feel thirsty, you’ve most likely not replenished all lost fluids,” says Kenney, pointing out that some athletes can shed as much as three pounds of body weight via sweat in a workout.

Sports drinks have come under fire because of their sodium content. But, as this blog documented in a recent post, ardent athletes have a very different relationship with this mineral than the general population. While most people consume far too much salt, body competition entrants and other active individuals need to take in more sodium because they lose so much of it through sweat.

Remember, though an excess amount of sodium has been linked to high blood pressure and other health issues, your body needs it to maintain appropriate levels of liquid within your cells. So, if you’re headed to the gym for an hour or two of intense bikini or figure competition training, don’t think twice about grabbing a sports drink.
